Welcome. We serve with Tandem Ministries in New Zealand. Karl leads Digital Strategies for the ministry, and Amy leads discipleship groups with women and with artists.
About
We have served with Tandem Ministries for the last 20 years in Hong Kong, the United States, and New Zealand. Tandem Ministries is part of the global Cru network. For the last three years Karl has been leading Digital Strategies for Tandem Ministries, as well as being part of Cru’s Global Digital Strategies network.
What is Digital Strategies?
A generation ago, it would have been very unusual for any organization to have digital strategies. But today, in a world where we do much of our banking, shopping, communication and entertainment online an organization like Tandem needs websites, email, social media channels, and strategies to integrate new aspects of our fast-changing online world as they are developed. How times have changed!
Digital Maturity
In fact, Tandem is like most organizations in that we already have most of these elements but as a result of each of them being developed individually at different times, and for different purposes, they often are not working as an integrated online platform.
The goal for Tandem is that we would be a digitally mature organization – one that is able to take advantage of new opportunities in the digital space without being overly enamoured by novelty, one that is developing an online brand that is accurately rep- resenting who we are and what we are doing and one that is listening to what is being said online by our culture and community and can respond at the right time, on the right channels, and with the right message.
Innovation
The can-do attitude typified by the “Number 8 wire mentality” has characterized New Zealanders since the beginning of our country. New Zealand has an history of pioneers and innovators and this continues today. The Martin Jetpack and Weta Studios are just two examples of Kiwis leading innovation on a world scale. In the digital sphere, New Zealand is fertile ground for innovators and we want to nurture that innovation to help spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
Collaboration
The task of the Great Commission is beyond the scope for one organization alone. And this has been the case since the very beginning – Paul partnered with people like Barnabas, and Priscilla and Aquila, and likewise we must partner with others if we are to see the Great Commission fulfilled. Through networks like Indigitous, Tandem is connected with other organizations and individuals who have a passion for connecting people with Jesus and is working with them to develop tools and strategies to take the message of Jesus to New Zealand and the world.
We all want to see the gospel change the lives of Kiwis and people all around the world. The reality is that most people do not know someone who is truly following Jesus and so are not likely to hear and respond to the gospel through their normal relationships and interactions. This is where digital strategies prove their value – they both give people the opportunity to have conversations with people they already know, because so many of the conversations we have we now have online – but they also allow us to connect with people who would normally never step inside a church or talk with a Christian. Digital strategies amplify our ability to communicate the gospel so we can communicate more clearly to those we know, and so we can make the message heard by those who would otherwise not hear.
Art and the gospel
Art is a powerful form of communication that connects directly with our emotions. It allows us to express and communicate above and beyond words. Through her life journey Amy discovered both that she had a talent for visual art, and the healing powers of art for our soul. She currently paints to communicate God’s message through her artwork, as well as discipling other Christian artists. In addition to this she is also leading a women’s discipleship program called The Significant Woman.
